MISSION & VALUES

To allow youth from diverse communities and extenuating circumstances in Central Ohio the opportunity to develop core values through hockey and use it as a vehicle to open doors and excel in all aspects of their lives.

HONESTY:

The Columbus Ice Hockey Club values Honesty. We insist on truthfulness with each other and our community; we expect truth and openness among all CIHC participants and volunteers. We keep our promises, we take responsibility, we are clear in all communications within our organization. We are authentic, honest, and transparent; we strive to do the right thing every day, every time.

RESPECT:

We honor the intrinsic dignity, autonomy, uniqueness, and worth of each person. We treat others the way we would want to be treated. We are considerate of each other's feelings, values, and points of view. We are committed to a positive environment in which everyone may experience a sense of belonging, worth, and safety. We honor relationships and take responsibility for fostering trust, respect, and goodwill for all cultures and backgrounds. We desire to make a difference in each other’s lives.

We respect our competition demonstrating good sportsmanship. We expect our teammates and coaches to treat each other with respect. We will use honor in our interactions with officials and opponents, as they deserve our respect. We have the courage to do and say the right thing and we welcome accountability as well as play with honesty and transparency.

EDUCATION:

Columbus Ice Hockey Club believes academic performance is of utmost importance. We believe that education serves as a cornerstone in improving society and building better futures for all. It can open the door to opportunities and pave the way for the future success of our participants. We encourage independent learning and empower our student-athletes to embrace their academic responsibilities. CIHC expects its’ student-athletes to grow in personal responsibility and self-worth by developing a mutual respect with their teachers. We will strive to aid our members in staying focused on and provide resources to aid in academic success for our student-athletes.

INCLUSION:

Columbus Ice Hockey Club believes true excellence requires that each individual be able to play and learn in an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and acceptance for all cultures and backgrounds. Our commitment to inclusion requires each of us to continuously learn and ensure our interactions be respectful. We recognize that our differences make us stronger. We respect and seek out the inclusion of differences, realizing we can learn from each other. We insist on a culture of respect and recognize that words and actions matter. We believe in the freedom of speech, and encourage the civil and respectful expression of ideas and opinions. We all share in the responsibility to create a positive culture and to safeguard equity, inclusion, dignity, and respect for all. We take action when we observe someone being treated unfairly or in a demeaning manner. We feel it is important for us to provide opportunities to include all who want to play hockey in Central Ohio.

DEVELOPMENT:

At CIHC, we recognize that our members are our most valuable asset. We think it’s important for athletes to grow both personally and as hockey players. We believe it’s important to constantly challenge and stretch ourselves. We believe that inside every CIHC participant is more potential than they realize - our goal is to help them unlock that potential to benefit them in every aspect of their life. Successful CIHC members must show discipline and heart and be prepared to work harder than they have ever worked. We will continually strive to improve hockey skills through training, good nutrition and proper rest. We believe in personal growth and understand that the habits developed and lessons learned through participation in CIHC will provide benefits throughout each player’s life.
